RECRUITMENT

IFC Recruitment

Welcome to

The fraternity recruitment process is based on the mutual agreement between a fraternity chapter and a potential new member. Our organizations will host events throughout the year to showcase their members, values and beliefs, membership requirements, community service, philanthropic fundraising, etc. Potential new members are strongly encouraged to explore all of their options to find the organization they believe best aligns with

their personal beliefs, professional goals and academic needs.

Potential New Member,

Welcome to Recruitment! Here at Christopher Newport, you will have many opportunities to get involved both on and off-campus, and we hope that you choose fraternity membership as a fundamental factor in your college experience. Fraternity life is a decision that not only impacts you, but also your entire college experience. The IFC is a collection of nine organizations offering leadership, community service, and philanthropic opportunities while promoting academic excellence and achievement. Our men are fundamental students on campus holding leadership positions campus-wide while cultivating academic success and involvement. The basis of every fraternity is to foster brotherhood and create a lasting change through personal growth and development.

We encourage you to seek out an organization with the intent to foster brotherhood and build meaningful relationships and bonds that will last a lifetime. When you are going through the recruitment process, we encourage you not to look at the letters on their chests, but to find the organization that fits your version of a fraternity experience. Choose a group of men that will challenge you, push you, and grow you into a better man ready to take the world by storm.

Our hope is that you will also find a brotherhood filled with opportunities that include community outreach, leadership, and networking. While trying to decide which fraternity to join can be difficult, the IFC Executive Board is here to help guide you by answering your questions and easing your concerns. I am incredibly excited that you have considered joining the Greek community here at Christopher Newport University and wish you the best of luck!

Sincerely,

The Interfraternity Council

Recruitment Process

Deferred Recruitment

Our deferred recruitment model requires you to earn at least 12 credits before being eligible for membership. The model places an emphasis first on your transition and acclimation to CNU and the academic environment on campus. The earliest a freshman is eligible is during his or her second semester. Transfer students are immediately eligible to join fraternities and sororities.

Fall Recruitment | Spring Recruitment

We host two formalized recruitment processes, both featuring the same logistical structure as displayed below. Historically, Spring Recruitment typically features the largest class due to our deferred requirement model.

Recruitment Schedule: Fall 2023

  • Accept: This ends the recruitment process.

  • Hold: Gives a potential new member time to process and examine other options.
